Recently, I received an interesting e-mail from a potential client. Her home had expired from the market, and I had sent her some information about what I would do to market her home. Although she did not contact me by phone, she sent me the equivalent of a pre-interview via e-mail.
In that e-mail, she introduced herself, mentioned that she was considering several agents for the job of marketing her home (including me), and asked the following 5 questions:
1.What is your commission and would you be willing to negotiate with it?
2.Are you a fulltime realtor or is this a second job for you?
3.How long of a contract do you require your client to sign?
4.What type of fees does "XYZ Company" require the client pay other than the commission ?
5.When you as a realtor put a house on the market, what type of things do
you do to help get the house sold?
The lady then apologized for being so direct, and said that she wanted to do some investigating before she hired her next agent.
I found this e-mail so interesting because it told me a great deal about her as well. Her list of questions outlined her priorities- probably ranked in order. It also conveyed her expectations for her next agent. Finally, it allowed me to get a sneak peak at the type of person that she might be.
This woman did not need to apologize. I think that everyone should investigate before they hire an agent to do such an important job. The internet is a wonderful place to find a professional who has the tools to get the job done. In this day and age, no one should have to hire an agent that they know nothing about.
